On the 25th July central Melbourne was full of German-learning students from all around Victoria who shared the annual German Day Out.
There were various options for students: there was a forum in the National Gallery where students heard short talks from interesting young people about their positive experiences with German and about the value in learning German; on the stage in Fed Square there was a show led by SBS Radio; on the big screen at Fed Square student films from the German School Film Festival were running; students did German language-trail activities on the historic Sandridge Bridge or in the area around Fed Square; there was a lot of eating of Bratwurst and Brezeln, and there was the German film Die Welle in the ACMI cinema.
During the event the Goethe-Institut/AGTV Year 10 Award was presented to a student from Sebastopol College by the Director of Melbourne’s Goethe Institut.
There was a fair bit of “Deutsch! Ja! Ja! Ja!” .
Thanks are due to the AGTV Committee and to the Goethe Institut for their work in preparing such a large and successful event.
