The Society for Australian-German Student Exchange (SAGSE) was founded in Melbourne in 1967 by Fritz von Einem-Joosten, a Melbourne-based businessman. SAGSE, run entirely by volunteers, is a non-profit student exchange organisation registered with the Department of Education and Training in Victoria. With the support of many corporate sponsors it provides scholarships to Australian students in Years 11 and 12 for a 10-week exchange to Germany (late-November to early-February).
As an exchange, it also involves students from Germany coming to Australia for an experience of Australian life in an Australian family. The Germans are here in Australia for 10 weeks from late-June to early September. Australian students who host a German student are automatically granted an interview in the scholarship selection process. Hosting applicants may be be in Years 10, 11 or 12.
See the SAGSE website: http://www.sagse.org.au
At the Annual Banquet in October friends, sponsors, members and former scholarship holders gather to congratulate the latest recipients on their success in being awarded a scholarship, and to celebrate the continuing work of the Society.
The AGTV sponsors one of the SAGSE scholarships every year.
