On the 21st March 2007 (the International Day of Puppetry) a puppet day for primary school learners of German was held at Bayswater Primary School. This puppet day was an initiative of the Association of German Teachers of Victoria and was made possible by the cooperation of the AGTV with the Goethe Institut, Bayswater PS, many parent helpers, teachers and the performers who entertained the students.
Over 500 Grade 5/6 students learning German and their teachers from the Eastern Region of Melbourne attended.
Students enjoyed watching "Die Drei Kleinen Schweinchen" performed by the MANA Puppet group from Queensland and a group of Grade 3/4 students participated in puppet-making workshops run by Helen Scrutton from Puppet Adventures in Daylesford.
The staff and helpers set up a big catering effort - frankfurts in a roll with Sauerkraut, Senf, sauce as well as nearly 400 'Brezeln'.
The 'Leierkastenmann' (barrel-organ man) provided entertainment - not only traditional German tunes but the famous 'Vogeltanz' too. Schnappi (das kleine Krokodil) turned up too and sang his famous song.
