Die Lehrer waren sehr nett und freundlich, und die Schülerinnen
auch. Wir haben alles auf deutsch gemacht - und das war nicht so schlimm wie
unsere Erwartungen. Wir haben an vielen Aktivitäten teilgenommen, aber
der Schatzjagd und dasTanzen waren am besten!

I was fortunate enough to attend a three-day German camp in Monbulk held over the weekend of May 18-20. This was a camp for year 10 German students in Victoria. As we drove to Monbulk I was nervous in anticipation of what the following days would be like. As we arrived I was introduced to some of the other girls who I would be sharing a room with. Suddenly the fluttering in my stomach was gone, as I became friends with these girls.
After I had recovered from the initial anxiety and nervousness from realising that I was the only one from our school attending the camp, and didn't know anyone else, I soon realised we were in for loads of fun, but intensive language learning (although we didn't really speak German, we only listened to the teachers instructions, which were in German).
That night, after dinner, us 24 students (one was still to come the following day) participated in a traditional Australian bush dance, although the instructions were firstly in German and then in English. It was great fun, and soon afterwards we had supper and free time. Some of us played Monopoly (in German of course!) while others watched TV.
In the two days that followed we participated in fun but challenging activities that were arranged for us. These included Treasure Hunt, Poster Making (my poster won), Celebrity Heads, Red Faces, Volleyball, and much more. We also managed to do some grammar and vocabulary games and activities as well as experience the opportunity to eat some German food as well.
During the course of the weekend many friendships were formed. Not only were friends made, and some kept, but also our knowledge and understanding of German had indeed improved. It was a really worthwhile experience. There were no downsides to this camp. It was a remarkable experience as you get to learn about and meet other people who are also learning German. When I got home I realised my German had improved and I felt I had achieved something.
To all you German students out there, when you get the opportunity
to participate in a camp like this, I highly recommend you do it!
